Peeps are definitely not my favorite treat to eat, but they are so darn cute!  I especially love the little bunnies.  And when I think of Easter I always picture Peeps.

A few years ago my kids wanted to change up things and do something different instead of dying easter eggs.  We decided to dip peeps and it was so much more fun.   You can find that DIY here.

When I was ready to decorate our porch for Easter this year, I knew my easter wreath wasn't going to be enough.  Since my kids love peeps so much, I wanted to do something with peeps in mind.   I hunted around the garage for some wood, but couldn't find any.  But, I did find some leftover styrofoam from a different home project.  Perfect!

This craft will also forever hold a place in my heart for an odd reason.  While I was outside cutting out my bunny, my daughter decided to give a big hug one of the trees in our yard.  Of course we still had icy snow on the ground, it was on a hill and she was wearing cowgirl boots.  Yep.....she slipped and her armpit got hung up on a hook I had in the tree to hold up some decor.  Needless to say we ended up the ER for the rest of the night getting 11 stitches. Yikes!

What you'll need:

styrofoam sheet
pen or a marker
utility knife (make sure it's sharp)
sandpaper
acrylic paint
some wire or dowels

Start by drawing out the shape of a peep onto your styrofoam.  I just googled an image and traced it as best as I could.

Then take your utility knife and cut out your shape.  Make sure you are working on a surface that can take the scratches from the knife otherwise place some old cardboard or wood underneath your styrofoam and cut it out onto that.

When you have your entire bunny cut out, take a piece of sandpaper and lightly go over the entire edge of your cut out.  This will help to get all those loose styrofoam chunks off and will blend them all in to make the edge nice and smooth.

Then paint up that cute little bunny and add on his eyes and nose.  I painted my bunny yellow and I used regular acrylic paints.  You can choose any peep color you would like or whichever color goes best with your decor.

I have an old milk jug that I always keep by my front door, so I knew I wanted him to sit in it.  I added in 2 pieces of wire so that I could hold him upright and still position him around my pieces of driftwood that I keep in the jug.  You could use a small dowel inserted in the styrofoam or you could duct tape a dowel or some type of rod to the back of him.

Then put your cute little peep on display!  I had some leftover deco mesh that I got at the dollar store and used it to make a little nest underneat my bunny.  Doesn't he look adorable?!
