How to paint canvas shoes

I bought this pair of white canvas shoes when they were on clearance figuring that eventually I'd wear them.  Well, a year later they were still sitting in my closet because I hadn't yet worn out my previous pair.  I had always wanted a pair of "fun" shoes and I figured these were the perfect pair to fancy up a bit!

And since lately we've been doing a lot of cactus and succulent themed crafts (my daughter decided to redecorate in her room and wanted cactus') I figured cactus canvas shoes were perfect.

What you will need:

white canvas shoes
pencil
fabric markers
waterproofing product

Start out by sketching your design lightly onto your shoes with a pencil.  If you're not good at free hand, have a picture nearby that you can sort of copy from.  I googled some cactus pictures and used them as my guide.

Then once you have your design sketched, start coloring it in.  I got this large pack of fabric markers so that I had plenty of color options and could sort of do a watercolor look with my shoes.  I absolutely love how they turned out.

After your paint markers have completely dried on your shoes I would suggest using some type of waterproofing spray on your shoes.  I used this product from Rustoleum and so far am very happy with it.  Just follow the manufacturers directions for proper application then enjoy your fun new shoes!
